AFT Student Debt Clinic

​​More than 45 million US workers owe $1.6 trillion dollars in student loans, with ~93% of it owed to the US Department of Education. Workers are going into more debt to finance their education, and more workers are defaulting on those loans because wages aren’t rising to keep up with the costs. The system is broken!

Positive and Supportive Culture

The third strategic theme in the Douglas County School District Strategic Plan Framework is Positive and Supportive School Culture. The objectives of this theme are to “define and implement a high-performing working environment for all DCSD employees,” “enhance engagement for all DCSD employees through mutual respect and positive recognition,” and “enhance opportunities for all employees to be DCSD ambassadors who are informed and empowered in their professional practice.”

MCEA Labor Relations Win

MCEA is always hard at work for our members. One of the ways the union seeks to serve members is by fighting for them in matters of dispute between a member and an employer. The union is happy to tell the story of one worker who had the union come to their aid in their time of need. The member’s name has been withheld to maintain and protect their privacy.

AFT Healthcare-Maryland continues to engage state legislators to ensure safety for those working in state run healthcare facilities. We have brought elected officials from both chambers of the state legislature to worksites to talk with members who are on the front lines, engaging residents with various medical and psychiatric needs.
