CCM CHAPTER ESTABLISHES AWARD FOR STUDENT CREW MEMBERS OF CAMPUS TELEVISION PRODUCTIONS

RANDOLPH, NJ—The County College of Morris (CCM) chapter of the United Adjunct Faculty of New Jersey (UAFNJ) has recently launched an award for students who participate in television production in the campus media center.  The Gerard Bevan Award, valued at $500, will be given annually to a student who demonstrates professionalism and commitment in the weekly production of “CCM: All Access,” the College’s first weekly television program.

Gerard Bevan was one of the founding faculty members at CCM when the College opened in 1968.  Hired into the English Department, Bevan developed and taught the College’s first speech courses.  A native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Bevan received the baccalaureate degree in English from the University of Scranton in 1964 and the Master of Arts degree, also in English, from Duquesne University in 1966.  He taught at CCM for twelve years prior to departing in June of 1980. Bevan currently resides in Florida.

Two students have been selected as the inaugural recipients of the award.  Daniil Barkov, a sophomore majoring in business administration from East Hanover, NJ; and Brenda Todd, a sophomore majoring in broadcasting arts and technology from Randolph, NJ, will be the first to receive The Gerard Bevan Award.  Barkov and Todd have both worked on “CCM: All Access” as on-camera talent and crew members since the show’s first season.

“CCM: All Access” is a weekly talk show that is taped in the Alex DeCroce Media Center’s television studio, featuring interviews with faculty, administration, and students.  Production began in January 2018, and the show is now nearing completion of its third season.  The show is aired every Monday on Morris Educational Television (METV), and is also viewable on YouTube.

Newly Unionized State Employee Contract Approved By Legislature

The value of union membership was clearly demonstrated on Wednesday (March 27th) when lawyers working at the Attorney Generals Office had their first contract approved at the state legislature.  This was a significant milestone for this group of 185 state employees.   These employees had not been unionized previously and had not recieved raises in many years.  About two years ago these 'at will' state employees organized themselves.  They petitioned the state for the right to form a union.  They held a vote.  They formed their own union.  The result:  with their first contract th
