We can change direction on state employee pay and benefits - but in order to do so we must come together as a group and stand up for our professions and our work. Other state workers are represented on Governor Beshear's Employee Advisory Council - but no one is there to represent state professionals.

A report released by the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce recommends that Kentucky state employees be forced to pay more out-of-pocket for helath insurance. The Chamber presented the report as part of their plan to solve the revenue shortfall facing the state, but information presented at the Governor's Employee Advisory Council meeting by the Personnel Cabinet shows the Chamber Report to be flawed.

NECW representatives would like to give everyone a brief update on the status of negotiations between our union and the Northcoast Children's Services (NCS):
On Friday, October 30, the NECW bargaining team met with NCS representatives to continue negotiations over bargaining our first contract. The bargaining session originally scheduled for Friday, October 9 had been cancelled due to unavailability of representatives from both teams.
Topics discussed on the 30th included state pre-school funding sources and salaries, management rights, grievance procedures and approval of a revised Accounting Specialist II job description and salary placement. It is our hope that tentative agreements will be reached on outstanding proposals on November 19th and 20th, which are our next scheduled bargaining sessions.
On another note, the NECW executive board is nearing completion of the local's constitution and the membership will soon be asked to vote on it's ratification.
Our next NECW Executive Board meeting will be held on Thursday, November 12 from 6-8pm at the Labor Temple on E street in Eureka. Please join us on Saturday, December 5 from 10am-12noon for the NECW Pot Luck, also at the Labor Temple in Eureka. All members are welcome to attend executive board meeting and the Pot Luck as well.
Please take this time to show your support your union and bargaining representatives by joining as a member. We need the support of all NCS employees represented by NECW to get the best contract possible! Contact your site representative or any NECW officer for more information. If you don't know whom to contact at your site, call Jennifer Turley at: 733-5139.
