Teachers received an early Christmas present with the fabulous news from Sarah Cohen, AFT Legislation, that the NDAA bill for fiscal year 2020 would include relocation provision for retirees and new teachers and made it retroactive to January 1, 2018! The NDAA bill was signed by President Trump on December 20, 2019.
NDAA Bill - Please read the two attachments concerning the NDAA bill and the taxes for new hires and retirees. The first attachment is the second letter written to the US House of Representatives and signed by Randi Weingarten, President AFT, and myself urging them to ensure that the travel, transportation, and relocation provision was included in the final version of the NDAA. The second attachment is the final bill text. Not only was the travel, transportation, and relocation provision included in the final bill, they made it retroactive to January 1, 2018! Until this final bill the discussion was always that if included in the final bill, it would not be retroactive. This is Fantastic News for everyone and I truly believe it is a result of your letters to Congress, and to the never wavering support we all receive from our parent organization AFT!
